East Mids Register

What a listing has to survive

Written down in advance so that adding somebody later is an act of checking rather than an act of judgement.

Check by check

CheckWhat we ask forWhat fails it
ExistenceA company number or a verifiable trading address, and a phone number somebody answersA mobile number and a web form, with no trace of the business anywhere else

QualificationWhat they are registered to do and with which body, matched to what we would list them forOffering to fit an outdoor socket or change a protective device without the registration to do it
DevicesFor retailers, which of the products they sell appear on the ENA Type Test RegisterNot knowing what the register is
CurrencyWillingness to be re-checked, and a date on the entryNothing at the point of listing. Entries lapse rather than fail

Why check two exists

It looks like the soft one. It is the one most likely to be failed.

The permitted development right covering solar equipment was rewritten on 27 August 2026, the same day the product became lawful, and it now excludes plug-in solar on wooden walls, balconies and timber cladding. Almost the entire retail market calls these devices balcony kits.

A trade that has not caught up with that will cheerfully quote for a job that needs a planning application behind it. The customer finds out afterwards. That is precisely the outcome a directory exists to prevent, so we ask.

What a failure gets

An email saying which check was not met and what would close it. Nobody is publicly named as having failed, and anybody can come back once the gap is filled.

What being listed is not

It is notBecause
A recommendation of workmanshipWe have not stood in anybody's loft. We can verify credentials and knowledge, not craft
A guaranteeNothing here creates a contract between you and a listed trade
An accreditationWe are not a scheme and we do not award anything. We publish what we checked and when
Paid forNo fee is taken, so a listing cannot be bought and its absence cannot be bought either
